What is National Salvation Army Week?

In 1954, the U.S. Congress approved a joint resolution for President Dwight D. Eisenhower to proclaim a week to recognize the humanitarian efforts of The Salvation Army, one of the nation’s largest and oldest faith-based health and human service providers. Today, with the help of more than 3.3 million volunteers, The Salvation Army serves more than 25 million Americans every year. With a presence in every zip code across the country, The Salvation Army uniquely understands the demands facing Americans in need. 

 

       

 

Our Doors are Open and You're Invited

The Salvation Army Corps Centers will open their doors to allow the community an opportunity to dive deeper in their understanding of how we ‘do the most good’ in their backyard. Free music lessons, free food boxes, youth violence prevention programs, afterschool care, rehabilitation counselling and safe outdoor spaces for the homeless are just a few of the many services provided to meet local need.

 

“Our mission at The Salvation Army is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination,” says Major Mike Dickinson, The Salvation Army Intermountain Divisional Commander. “A need for one individual may be very different to the need of another, so we are honored and thankful to provide a great number of diverse programs to serve the needs of those struggling in the Denver Metro area.”

In addition to learning more about our programs, these events will also give you an opportunity to meet other members of our community who too wish to support our mission. As a key participant and supporter of our services we would love to see you there.

The Salvation Army Aurora Safe Outdoor Space

Dinner Service

6 - 8pm

The Safe Outdoor Space is for those who are experiencing homelessness in Aurora, including couples, singles, pet owners, LGBTQ+ people, people with disabilities, and many more. Our mission is to first and foremost provide residents with safety and shelter. Targeted case management is available to every individual along with employment services, benefit assistance and community resources to help assist and hopefully end an individual’s homelessness. Come by during our Dinner Service for a tour and to learn more about our program!

THRIVE (Free Music Classes)

Our Tuesday THRIVE free music classes consist of singing company, brass ensemble, drum line, ukulele, bucket drums, hula class, and dinner for the kids. We will also highlight our food pantry program

Celebrate Recovery (Support group for those recovering from addiction)

Celebrate Recovery is a program/ministry that we hold every Tuesday night. The goal of the program is to help those who are working on their addictions with a support group and to help them continue on their path to stay clean

Youth Programs

We are highlighting our Youth Violence Prevention Program, as well as the wrap around services that we provide. We will have the City Mayor and Council present. The City’s YVPP director will speak for 10 min. The community relations chief will also talk about our partnership to reduce youth violence and send 100 kids to camp this year.
